Outback Queensland

Well, we thought isolation was over when we embarked on our last trip, but that is not how it’s panned out. The situation in Victoria worsened with COVID cases increasing, causing Melbourne to be locked down again and state borders still closed. When our NSW / Victoria border was closed we became isolated from all our family and friends in Victoria. We can shop in Barham but Kerang is out of bounds!! Of course we had to miss my mums 102nd birthday with SA actually strengthening their state border. So we thought we may as well go off camping. Luckily Queensland borders are open for us, so with our passes in place we set off this morning. We plan to get into Queensland as quickly as we can just in case the rules change again.

We travelled the back way to Moulamein (getting the clean van dirty already) and headed to Hay via Maude to avoid the highway traffic. At Maude we noticed this structure which must be a new weir.
We had morning tea on the banks of the Murrumbidgee at Hay and missed our travelling companions - Dennis & Tops -  who are stuck in Kerang!!

Our travels today from home to here at Cobar were very quiet with hardly any traffic - and noticeably few caravans. I think they are already in Queensland! We also noticed how lush and green everything is - they’ve had more rain than us and the crops are very healthy.
We enjoyed our lunch at the Black Stump rest area at Merriwagga - and what a great little place this is and how we wished we were there later in the day to enjoy their Old School Grounds caravan park. If you’re ever looking for a lovely little campground, this would have to be it!!

We had initially planned to stay night 1 at the Mt Hope pub park, but once again we were too early so we pushed onto where we really didn’t want to to be but here we are at the Cobar Caravan Park once again. It is a nice park but not bush camping like we love.

Tomorrow we head to the border via Louth so our kind of trip!!
We trust everyone is keeping safe - we are.  I think we’ve spoken to 2 people all day - other than each other!!
So till the next blog, cheers from Marg & Darryl ❌❌❌
