Kalbarri and more.

From our lovely stay at Dandaragan, we had an easy trip north towards Geraldton where we parked next to the huge cathedral which took 22 years to build!

It was certainly very impressive! We then drove along the foreshore which looked picturesque and inviting.
Eventually we found a supermarket where we could park, but then we had the worst shopping experience ever - it was a huge shop and absolutely crowded! We were so pleased to get out of there! Give us a little country store any day!
We found our new campsite out of a little place called Port Gregory. That was our campsite, nestled behind the trees to shelter from the wind!  The windy conditions around are evidenced by the leaning trees!

At our campsite we learned much about the station which was once a convict depot, established in 1853. There are ruins remaining of the settlement and luckily the station homestead has been restored from its derelict state.

The Japanese actually torpedoed Port Gregory - fortunately  unsuccessfully! This area is also known for its pink lake, but sadly we didn’t see it at its best. We did a day trip to Kalbarri and found the town very pretty with the River Murchison entering the sea. On the sunny day the sea was a gorgeous turquoise colour. The main purpose of our visit was to the National Park, to enjoy the recently completed Skywalk.  We couldn’t get over how well done the skywalk was - it blended in with the surrounding scenery and provided a great view over the gorge and Murchison River. It is a world class feature and an enormous  engineering feat.

It was a pity the river was dry so we didn’t undertake any strenuous walks to the bottom of the gorge. We did however, scramble over rocks to view ‘ Natures Window’ which is also quite impressive.
If you are an astute reader, you will notice I cheated a little with this photo as there is water in the river! We did have our photo taken there but it was too unflattering to use!
We are now enroute to Denham where we will stay and visit Monkey Mia. We’ve heard such a lot about this place, it will be interesting to see it for ourselves.  So far, all the tourist destinations we have visited have more than met our expectations. We are finding flies are pesky and have had to don the awful fly nets - but they do help! The days are warm and nights cool so we’ve yet to cast aside jumpers totally. We hope all our readers are well, love from the travellers ❌❌❌❌
