Heading East

We left the Bungle Bungles with some heavy rain clouds and struck some quite wet patches on the road out. The road was just as bumpy so when we struck bitumen it was bliss!! We sadly said farewell to Western Australia and are now in NT. We loved WA  except for the time - it was light at 5.30am and dark at 5pm so it's good to be back in more normal times.

We spent a bit of R & R at Kununurra - where it was just as hot and sticky as it was a month ago! I've even changed my drink of choice to shandy in this hot climate - Darryl allows me one can of beer a night plus a can of lemonade which makes 3 refreshing glasses for me! We did lots of cleaning - cars, vans, clothes, selves ......even though there's still red dust around, at least things look a little more presentable!  The pool was lovely and very refreshing after all the cleaning:

We headed to Katherine and spent last night at Victoria River Roadhouse. It's a very beautiful area with the lovely Victoria River having a  beautiful escarpment backdrop.

Our drivers side mirror had a close shave thismorning when a big hawk was a bit slow taking off and hit us!! Lots of feathers and one cracked mirror resulted but Darryl's been able to repair it. (not the bird though!)

We are now set up at the Hi Way Inn on the corner of the Stuart Highway and Carpenteria Highway. Coincidently, at a lunch time spot in a road side stop between Katherine and Daly Waters, we met Shirley Hope travelling to Darwin. Small world isn't it?

Tonight - because we've been very good girls, the 2 D's are taking us out for dinner to the restaurant here. Then tomorrow we head east to Cape Crawford and then Borroloola which is on the Gulf of Carpenteria.  The girl in the Katherine visitors centre was surprised we were looking for information on these spots as they aren't touristy but we've heard about the fishing here and maybe we can interest the boys in catching a fish for us?

From there we will look at the map and decide the next destination. This is a pretty short blog as we've been traveling over roads we've already covered. From now on it will be new to us so there maybe more interesting news next time.  We trust everyone is well and not too cold - we're still experiencing hot weather and I've just had another swim!

Love to everyone from us xxxxxxx
