Kilcowera Station

Well look where we were camped at Kilcowera Station! We went from one beautiful spot to another.

We left the national park and headed to Hungerford where we fuelled up again. Unfortunately we were too early for one of the pubs famous steak sandwiches for lunch - instead we had a roadside lunch amongst the wildflowers.
We did replenish our wood box along the way but at this place, firewood is supplied so we’re pretty set. We’re at this station stay between Hungerford and Thargomindah and it’s very well set up and organised. We are down at a lagoon site which is perfect.
Surprisingly, we’ve seen very little wild life this trip - actually 2 kangaroos, 3 emus and a handful of goats. Everyone seems to think the drought decimated their numbers - and the ones remaining, don’t have to come to the roadside for food as there’s an abundance of feed around. There is however an abundance of bird life which is making us happy!

On the top of Mt Roy (in our shorts & T shirts) where we had some service, we caught up with our social media, found out Port Adelaide won and talked to birthday boy Parker. We had a great day touring this 120,000 acre property - it took us nearly all day to travel the 60km but we stopped to look at landmarks and of course had our coffees and lunch. Much of the terrain was very rocky and slow going but the wildflower display was spectacular and it was quite impressive as we came off the high ground and could see the lakes. We also came across waterholes which were very pretty.

These are some of the flowers that captured my attention today.

We have now moved  on as big rains are expected (20-40mm) and the dirt roads will be closed. So we are at Thargomindah where we’ll stay till roads open again. It’s a brand new park and everything is just lovely. We’ve set up away from everyone on a grassed  area so hope we don't get too wet! I’ve  already done washing and we have annexes up, awaiting the rains tonight. The township looks to be very nice with everything we’ll need to replenish our stocks. There’s also things to see and do here so we’ll be happy. We do hope that home gets some rain as the crops would be looking for another watering.
Just as well we did come up when we did as I was right in thinking the border would close again. I guess now we are here, we are right - hope so!
We are really appreciating the freedom we are enjoying in this beautiful part of Queensland and feel sorry for the restrictive lives most of you are having. Keep safe and take care.
❌❌❌❌❌ the happy travellers Marg & Darryl.
