James Well

The trip from Swan Reach to here must have had Dennis and Tops a little confused as we took a rather irregular route to avoid the freeways. The trip up from the river flats provided spectacular views and of course the Barossa Valley and lower mid north scenery is always beautiful. We stopped at Ardrossan to get fruit and veges as we couldn't bring any across the border, and arrived at our "holiday" park here at James Well about mid day. Greg straight away took the boys out crabbing and even though the tides weren't ideal, they came back with enough for a decent meal. We ladies had a much better deal, enjoying a wine on the deck.

We enjoyed the most delicious sweet chilli crabs on rice under torch light - Dennis especially thought he was in foodie heaven as he was lucky enough to have asparagus rolls for lunch as well!! We had a very pleasant evening sitting around our camp fire.

Today some of us completed a portion of the "Walk the Yorke" trail and walked into Ardrossan where we met the non- walkers who were fishing off the jetty.

Darryl was hoping that a squid would be caught as he loves salt and pepper squid - but it wasn't to be today! However, three large crabs were added to the collection - these were caught in nets not raked. Silly crabs crawl into the net then the net is jerked up and hey presto another crab for the table 🦀🦀.

After a lovely relaxing lunch (more crabs 😊) fishing was on the agenda so Greg got the boys kitted up for some beach fishing.

However, when we ladies joined them, I modestly must say, it was me who caught the first fish. It was quite pleasant standing in the warm water. The total catch was four yellow finned whiting so that was worth the effort.

Tonight is roast night - and enjoying the lovely balmy evening. Then tomorrow we move further down the peninsula and wait for Chris and Merilyn to join us.
Our first experiences of Yorke Peninsula have been first class - thank you Anne and Greg for being excellent hosts and spoiling us so much. We will be sorry to leave you.
So the very happy travellers say farewell and bet you're all envious of our excellent time here.

xxxxxxxx
