All roads lead to Roma

Well here we are in Rome and already we have seen several of the major sites. Our day began by meeting our taxi driver Andrea from the other day. Turns out this was a very good move as Andrea told us the police were on strike today and the traffic around Amalfi was horrendous and some people weren't going to make their flight connections.

I can't say that we enjoyed the trip from Amalfi to Sorrento as it was windy and busses were everywhere but it was better in a car. We spent an hour in Sorrento - it's quite picturesque across the bay from Napoli. Unfortunately Andrea must think we are stupid Australians as he told us where to meet him but as usual we were waiting in the wrong spot!!

Three lovely tourists at Sorrento with Mt Vesuvius and Napoli in the background. As you can see the day was perfect - sunny and warm but not too hot.

From Sorrento we drove to the train station at Napoli and bought tickets for Roma at the ticket machines. ( you can see we are becoming quite Italian with our language!)

We arrived in Roma, caught a taxi here and are delighted with our apartment and it's location. We just dropped our bags and set off towards St Peters Basilica- we didn't know if we'd get in as usually the queues are ridiculously long! But we were lucky as it was later in the day and we got in without much queuing at all! Trouble is I hadn't unpacked my case to get my shawl to cover my shoulders so I was stopped and only able to enter if I covered my shoulders so a quick thinking attendant suggested I use paper! The result was a stunning fashion statement!!

St Peters was just gob smacking and you can't really describe it in words!

The sunlight  was something special and added to the charisma of the place.

This is Michelangelo's mother and child - quite amazing seeing it was created in 16 century!

We loved these Swiss guards of the Vatican - what great uniforms!!

We trudged the streets and found Piazza Novana - a famous square with 3 amazing fountains, lots of people,  buskers, hawkers, artists and probably thieves!!

So after lots of walking, we had a drink back here at our apartment then a quick delicious dinner just a few steps from our front door. We are all pretty tired and need a good sleep before our busy day tomorrow - hop on hop off bus with lots of must see spots on our agenda!

It's hard to believe we are here in Roma - so far from Murrabit!!

Hope you are all good and we sign off here now and hop into our bed with Caesar looking at us!!

Xxxxxxx
