Firenze

Here in sunny Florence we are feeling very cultured as we have seen lots of paintings, statues and churches with more to come!

Our train trip to Firenze was good and it was lovely to see the Tuscany scenery which is still green and crops looking good!

We could walk to our apartment from the train station and we are very comfortable here with a beautifully restored 16th century fresco on our bedroom wall. They had to scrape off 7 layers of paint to find this scene above our bed.

Yesterday afternoon we left Greg behind as his feet and ankles are sore and Anne took us to see some of Florence's must sees! The main church (Duomo) was very spectacular and we lit candles for all the Catholic family and friends.

We also saw the church Santa Croce where many well known people are buried ( Michelangelo, Galileo , Napoleons wife, Dante to name a few)

This morning we went to the local market and we saw many unusual sights as we wandered through the food market - all sorts of animal insides, fish, giant T bones, even rabbits! Anne and I liked the clothes, bags, shoes, jewellery etc flanked along each alley way! I can vouch that shopping with Anne when you have no money doesn't stop you purchasing things!

We caught a bus to the Piazzale Michelangelo which is an area where you can look out and see the beautiful Florence.

Darryl and I walked from here down to the Palazzo Pitti -the Medici Palace - another place of opulence and wealth where you are gob smacked in every room! We did wonder how the ordinary people lived in these times!

This is just one example of the elaborate ceilings in this palace! Each ceiling painting told a story though we got pretty confused!

Tomorrow we are booked in to see the Galleria degli Uffitzi ( museum art gallery) and to see the original David statue.

We are very impressed with Florence - it's not quite as bustling as Rome and is clean and picturesque.

Our day was upset when we learned about Josh's footy injury and we hope he is ok - we don't know at this stage how he got on at Bendigo. It's at times like this we hate being so far away.

On the other hand we are pretty pleased with Port Adelaide!

Hoping everyone is well - lots of love from Marg & Darryl xxxxxx

(Ps for everyone else except Kristian, Greg and I are sitting here bathing our feet in salt water! )
