Lorella Springs

This million acre property in remote NT is a cattle station that has diversified  into tourism, providing a beautiful venue for ordinary people like us to enjoy the beauty of this area. We thought we might stay 2 nights and ended up staying 5 so that’s a testament to how we loved it and how many things there were to do.

The camping area is beautiful with these gorgeous white gums and a wide open grassed areas for camping. You are also able to go bush camping anywhere.
There are so many things to do here, you’d take a couple of weeks to see everything. We were given a map and each day could go wherever we wanted - once we had checked out at the office.

The hot springs are lovely and relaxing and if we believe what we’ve been told, the minerals are therapeutic and hopefully rejuvenating!! We’ll come home looking and feeling years younger!  There are 4wheel drive tracks to the different billabongs, wetlands, pools, gorges and even 90odd km to the coast if you’re ambitious. They are running a motley assortment of cattle, slowly heading towards all Brahmans but at the minute lots of shorthorns. At the homestead you can socialise at the bar and enjoy a meal or coffee.

We had our obligatory rain one night, receiving an inch in short time which sort of ruined Dennis’s lovely chips - they became food for the emu chooks and peacock! Since then however, the humidity has gone, the days are sunny and clear,  nights cool and mornings damp. The locals say this is how it usually is.
The men enjoyed the challenge of the 4 wheel driving tracks - a little more than Tops & I I’d say! Some tracks were particularly challenging with rocks, creek crossings, sand stretches and a couple of  jump ups over rocks which looked very daunting! We chose to not tackle them but the young ones in their souped up utes, loved them.

We swam in Nudie springs which were very warm, worked hard to climb up to Teardrop Falls which were just beautiful and worth the effort, scrambled over rocks and past caves and along an overgrown track to Nanny’s retreat and enjoyed the hanging gardens pool.

Darryl was very happy to snap several birds but was particularly happy to capture this buffalo in the bush!

So we would encourage anyone to visit this glorious place - it was even worth it to have no phone, no wifi, no radio .... it’s quite refreshing really to leave all those things behind. However, now that we have a bit of coverage, we’re madly trying to catch up!!
We probably will only have scratchy service for a while so our contact could be spasmodic. We have a few birthday wishes - Sam, Jill, Ruby and soon Dennis will reveal where he’s taking Tops for her birthday!!
We send everyone our love, 😊😊😊😊
