Getting there

With Dennis’s tooth all fixed - and his wallet a little lighter, we left the Camooweal campsite and headed west along the Highway to Barkley Homestead. This place is strategically placed between the Stuart Highway and Mt Isa and is accordingly very busy with overnight travellers. We were actually early so got a few jobs done after lunch and even enjoyed our first swim in the refreshing pool.
We sighted along the road, this accident scene, which sent shivers up our spines to realise how quickly  dreams and aspirations can become shattered. We don’t know the outcome but hope there were no fatalities or serious injuries.

We then headed north on what they call the Tablelands Highway, but is in reality a narrow strip of some very uneven bitumen, which made for a slow trip. It was heartbreaking to see the barren paddocks and dead and dying cattle!

We passed several cattle trucks so there is still a lot of movement of cattle up this way. We did hear that a lot of the movement is getting stock to water.  However, we left the drought stricken area behind and the cattle further along were in much better condition.

At Cape Crawford (which isn’t really a cape at all but a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere) the owner was telling us about these beautiful bulls - which are useless as they aren’t one bit interested in the job they were purchased for! The big one did enjoy drinking from the sprinkler.

We had lunch on their lawns then decided to press on to Lorella Springs as it was only 140km away. It was however, a three hr trip, as the dirt road was pretty rough in places.
We are now almost at our destination which is a long way from home. The blue dot is Lorella Springs.

My next blog will be about Lorella Springs - we have such a lot of things to tell about this beautiful place. It’s good to hear the rain we sent down arrived!!  We trust everyone is well and as happy we are.
Love to everyone.
