Albany part 1

We arrived at Happy Days and are very impressed with this park - it's immaculate and very green which is nice after camping on dirt!

We are overlooking the King River and it's lovely and quiet here and there's even been a rod thrown in - with no success mind you!

We were fortunate to have the pay for three nights and stay the fourth night free deal which will be great as there's so much to see and do around here!
We did the ANZAC day, visiting the monument on Mt Clarence where you have spectacular views of the harbour and town. Unfortunately the brass memorial statue of the horses was under wraps as it was being cleaned. The area has undergone improvements since our last visit but the most amazing improvements are the beautiful new National ANZAC centre at the old fort area.

We spent ages here and the interpretive information is presented beautifully with so many stories about WW1. This was the last view of Australia for many of the soldiers who left here in two convoys and that's why it's a special place for ANZAC memories. Unfortunately we can't change the outcomes - so many unbelievablly sad stories. We loved this sculpture of a digger sharing his last bit of water with his horse.

At the old fort area the boys couldn't resist playing around with the guns:

and we posed again for an obligatory group photo (this is for the kids who may have forgotten us!)

The gardens and surrounds in all these areas are tended so carefully and we spend a lot of time admiring the plants such as this beautiful banksia:

We've had a bit of trouble finding a pie or pasty for lunch so resorted to our picnic lunch at Emu point where we saw these pilchards being unloaded: that's a lot of sardines!

Today we're off to the whaling station and the Gap and blowholes. It's a bit overcast this morning but don't think rain is on the way. We hope all the sporting endeavours are successful over the weekend - with no injuries! We also hope Trevor's fixed those pesky mice who are enjoying our house in our absence 🐀😳. Till our part 2 Albany story, love from Darryl Marg Dennis & Tops ❌❌❌❌❌
