Visiting the city

Our night at Lake Navarino will be mostly remembered for the after effects of a bush fire (one went through Jan '16 and evidence was everywhere) and the rain!! It was quite torrential and we were stuck in this tiny shelter which was the camp kitchen just  watching everything get drenched! Lucky we didn't have our annexes etc out!

We managed a scratch meal in the kitchen and all retired to bed rather early.
Our next day began on a very happy note when we learned from very excited grandparents Marg & Brian, of  baby Oliver Mack Harriss safe arrival. Congratulations Karen Mark & Lindsay ❌❌❌.
On our short journey to the next camp site, we felt quite nostalgic as we crossed the Murray River:

We've stayed in very different places - such as Chicken Run, Happy Days and now we're at Bonneys water ski park!! We aren't far from Perth and Freeo so will be here a few days and use this as a base. It's a small park, really delicated  for the water sports people, so it's nice and peaceful - although we can hear the train in the distance! Also in the complex is a paint ball centre and we can't believe how many people seem to go through that!  There are a series of lakes designated for water sports and across the road is a cable wake boarding centre. It was very interesting sitting watching how it works - but none of us were tempted to try!!

We toured through nearby Rockingham along the coast to Mandurah and boy, there is development going on everywhere and really the whole area is urbanised!! We really wanted to drive over this big bridge to an island but found out it was Garden Island - a Navy base - so we weren't eligible to go there! We loved Mandurah and the little Venetian area:

It is a very ritzy part of town and all beautifully done. We enjoyed a beautiful coffee overlooking part of the canal and even saw a dolphin frolicking - but he was too quick to capture on film.

Unfortunately, the forecasts rains which we seemed to avoid, have finally caught up with us and we experienced another wet and wild night - luckily after we'd cooked our BBQ on the campfire. It's been wet this morning but we're hopeful it will clear up and we'll be able to enjoy our tour of Fremantle.
I'll post this blog now as probably there will be much to tell from our next few days activities. Congratulations Beth on another successful half marathon - another great effort!!
We send our love to everyone - and off we go to Freeo!! 😊😊❌❌❌❌
